Wat Suvarnabhumi Buddhajayanti

Wat Suvarnabhumi Buddhajayanti was conceived as a Buddhist landmark of exceptional scale and meaning. Established in Samut Prakan under the inspiration of Phra Thepphodhivides (Veerayut Veerayuttho) of Wat Thai Buddhagaya, the temple was created to commemorate 2,600 years since the Buddha’s enlightenment and to dedicate merit to His Majesty, Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the occasion of his 70th year on the throne.

At the heart of the temple stands the Phra Maha Chedi Buddhagaya, a monumental sacred structure whose purpose is inseparable from remembrance, merit, and devotion. The chedi’s connects the temple to Buddhagaya, reinforcing the temple’s role as a place of pilgrimage and reverence on a broader Buddhist scale.

Within this sacred setting, BMG carried out a comprehensive stone program that contributes directly to the temple’s architectural and devotional presence. Executed primarily in White Carrara and Black Zimbabwe, the works include 51 carved marble Buddha installed around the base of the Phra Maha Chedi Buddhagaya, together with three types of small chedis in Arabescato marble. Together, they form a unified field of sacred stone that extends the spiritual presence of the central monument outward into the surrounding environment.

The significance of this work lies in its completeness. The Buddha sculptures establish rhythm, reverence, and continuity around the base of the great chedi. The smaller chedis deepen the ceremonial landscape, adding further points of focus, offering, and devotion.

At Wat Suvarnabhumi Buddhajayanti, BMG’s contribution belongs to a larger act of sacred construction — one that links architecture with merit, stone with remembrance, and Thailand with one of the most important spiritual narratives in the Buddhist world. The result is a temple environment shaped for pilgrimage, contemplation, and enduring reverence.
